Dialing-up memories of Internet's past:
Surfing the web circa 1998. In an age of dial-up, beepers & alternative music. The horrors of a modern world not yet experianced....The VCR was king and there were still music cassettes being sold on store shelves side by side with CDs. This was an age where DVDs were not yet introduced in a mainstream market....and we used discs to save things on our computers. We bring to you a tale of the innocent world of dial-up internet. A time where jpgs took several minutes to download and movie files & music files took hours.
Information was at our finger tips....just not very fast. Welcome to the golden age of the internet.

  • Back in the day I used to always fuck with my bro-in-law when he was online using AOL. I'd pick up the phone and start dialing a bunch of numbers, then I'd hear him in his room cussing up a storm when he got booted offline. It was great!

  • True! I first used the internet in 1996. Most images on pages were made of letters and characters on the computer keyboard!!It put me off until Broadband became widespread. I didnt go online at home until 2005 though and the internet has changed drastically since then - I remember when this site, Youtube used to only have a few hundred videos AND you occasionally picked up viruses from here; now you just pick up trolls!lol!

    Great vid.

  • I LOVE 1:30 "They're all gonna laugh at you!" -"Carrie's" mom <3

  • Man... memories... I was a charter member of AOL back in 1991/92. Not only did you have to connect with a 2400 baud modem (9600 baud if you were lucky) but you only got 10 hours per month for your monthly membership fee. After that they would charge you like 3.50 an hour. So you had to seriously monitor your usage. Once I got my 56k modem I was amazed! I could download like an entire megabyte a minute! Whoah!

I was the first person on my block to get DSL. Nerd cred...

  • Wow those were the days....strangely enough, a lot of people still depend on this connection method...credit card machines, all kinds of stuff...IT's not completely dead yet...But as far as the masses, yeah a thing of the past...

  • @novembre8211

imagine 20 years from now... :)

  • hey november 26 thats my birthday

  • I hate dialup

  • i remember all this. lol good times

  • @novembre8211 I did watch youtube once on dial up and it was an experience.

  • The greastest everday for me was when NTL(possibly still diamond cable) introduced unlimited dial up for £15 a month. Had 2 put with getting disonnected after 2 hours but it was a fair trade off.

Also after 6 it was free calls so me and my friends used to be able to play games agaisnt each other by dialing each others modems.

I don't seem to be bothered by on-line gameing now it;s easy.
