This is the first part of a collection of songs from 2009. Somewhere along the line, I decided to call it an orchestral reel.
Well, I feel a bit like a broken record, but I know it's been a while since I've uploaded anything. I'm hoping that will change now that I've got this out of the way. Ever since I got the EWQL Complete Composer's Collection, I haven't been posting much in the way of music (four songs out of more than twenty). With such a massive amount of music sitting in my collection, I decided to take my personal favorite parts and create an orchestral reel.
I guess this is more a form of getting rid of the old so I can post more recent (and in my opinion better) music. So, let's start with the descriptions:
An Adventure In a Day (Part 1): Made toward the beginning of the 2009 holiday season, this was my first attempt at a large scale orchestral piece that progressed through several phases and had a clearly defined beginning and end. The part at the beginning is the calm intro, the buildup, and the first "chorus" of sorts.
Anywhere USA: I've already posted the full version here. Nothing new in this, but its one of the only pieces I've made that fit under the comedy/drama category.
Final Fight: A pretty generic action piece that was my first attempt at a rock-oriented action piece incorporating orchestral elements.
Heart of a Warrior (Part 1): This was my entry for Eastwest's 2009 contest. Looking back, I could have done better, but it was an enjoyable challenge to attempt to tell a story in two minutes. The first parts are the more action-oriented portions of the song.
This Ends Tonight: This was created to round out a demo reel I sent to someone. The goal was to achieve a Hollywood style action/espionage feel with a vengeance undertone, although the action part is left out of this clip.
Heart of a Warrior (Part 2): This is the final passage in this piece, and is meant to convey a bittersweet mood.
Returning Home: I've already posted the first version of this piece on Youtube, although you can hear some of the second half of this song. This piece conveys a more celebratory mood.
Corporal Jackson: Originally created as part of a smaller orchestral reel, this piece is meant to capture the Hollywood Action Hero theme feel with its heroic french horn passage and large drums.
Laurel Road (Ending Theme): This is the ending of a soundtrack I made for a short student film called Laurel Road. It's a horror themed film with a tragic ending, and the clip is a more flushed out version of the "sad" theme I used.
A Mental Prison: This is an unusual piece for me. I attempted to achieve a sort of mysterious feeling while portraying an internal struggle.
I hope you enjoy listening.
