they all have stories but the thing is that anime all looks the same to me,i can't really tell what's what and on the simpsons and most of the cartoons you see have characters with a lot of different qualities.Some may be funny and all but they do have a story.Not dissing anime but i don't see the big deal from it.

dude anime is just cartoons man, but at least it has a story behind it. i love and respect "american cartoons" like the simpsons, rocko, angry beavers, ren and stimpy, futurama, south park, family guy, king of the hill, spongebob etc. but it's all the same crap from a distance. at least anime has an actual story and not just a bunch of jokes for 15 minutes. to name a few great animes: death note, fullmetal alchemist, naruto, and bleach, though i personally like the manga better than the anime.

while i semi agree with you, putting things in perspective i would bet asians say the same thing about our animation such as aqua teen hunger force, king of the hill, simpsons, sponge bob, etc....

it's all relative to the culture in question.
