  • BTW does anyone have clips from the 1985 Indianapolis Violin Competition. In it Leonidas plays the most hair-raising Ysaye Sonata (no 6) I've ever heard, and he was only 18. He went on to make a CD of these Sonatas later but I liked the former interpretation much better.

  • it would be great if someone had recorded the competition but i guess the dvd writers werent that common that days....:P

I like his recording of the ysaye sonatas, its technically as perfect as it gets, but i agree that there is not so much fire in it...

I have though a bad-quality rec of a recital here in greece when he was 20 or sg and he plays ysaye bach frank...

  • I copied this competition on tape but lost it over the years. His 1985 interpretation of the #6 Sonata was played at a much faster speed and was absolutely breathtaking to listen too.

My teacher at the time said he had the fastest (and cleanest) 6ths she'd ever heard. His later recording was much slower and more introspective. Still excellent, but with much less zip.

  • Y LOST IT OVER THE YEARS>>?????? Im sure that there are many people form the lk addicted club that want to kill u right now!!!:P

  • I was lucky to attend many years ago a few lessons with Mr.Kavakos in a seminar, during my conservatory studies...he is simply amazing....as a violonist,as an artist as a person...

  • Immediately goes into my favourites.

  • are those five people in their right mind?

  • Wonderful taste and spirit in this interpretation

  • Young Menuhin's Bach recordings were my favorite...til now.

I am sorry that I am Greek and never bought a CD of him or listened to him live. That's sad .

    Now, I know . :)

By the way , this sounds like ... I can't even make a comment on this.

  • damn he's fine

  • Modern Violin. But cembalist mind. Baroque violin not necessary.

  • Very beautiful and romantic performance. Bravo!

  • it is performed with baroque violin, isn't it?

  • You play absolutely top. Bravo!!!

  • That was an absolutely beautiful, other worldly performance. I have always loved that piece.

    Ron.

  • Man i gotta say this guy is pretty amazing, although he doesn't play with the typical Bach style he makes it work. and i noticed that he uses the same shoulder rest as me, a Kun Bravo
