Sofrendo de problemas por disfunção hormonal na tireóide, ela envelhece num corpo de criança.
Para quem não conhece, Maria Aldenete, é uma cearense de 29 anos que nasceu com uma disfunção na glândula endócrina e que impediu que seu corpo se desenvolvesse naturalmente.
Mulher em corpo de criança, o caso da "criança adulta" é comparada com o filme: O curioso caso de Benjamin Button, onde o personagem, interpretado por Brad Pitt, nasce velho e vai rejuvenescendo com o passar do tempo até morrer em corpo de criança.
Nete, que vive um caso real, é mais um exemplo do descaso da nossa saúde pública.
Segundo o Dr. Miguel, um dos maiores endocrinologistas do Ceará, Nete poderia ser uma mulher normal se tivesse tratamento adequado logo após ter nascido.
Hoje, com 29 anos, poderia ser mãe, mais o destino, ou a fatalidade, reservou outros caminhos à Maria Aldenete.

The doctor said that she has a stunted thyroid (gland) and it affects the child's mental and physical development. If she had been treated prematurely, she would probably be a normal person. Now, all they can do is to get her grown a little, but her mentality won't change. It seems she received a free lifelong treatment.
