Fallkniven's VG10 laminated steel is legendary. This 0.2" tang survival blade impressed us. It feels right and the thermorun handles are a sure grip. The through tang design adds extra versatility.

It was quite sharp out of the box though it did not shave hairs. It cut a sheet of paper with some tearing due to the thickness of the blade. Does it cut rope as well as a serrated blade? Obviously, no, but it did an impressive job nonetheless.

We were disappointed at the unexpected failure while removing it from the tree as we did not get a chance to put it up against cinder block or brick and then retry it's edge. The blade looked good and had done serious work up to this point.

Not shown was chopping through a 2" x 4" which took about 15 minutes. We considered this so similar to batoning against the grain that it did not add much to include it.

It doesn't resist acid!? No, of course not. Putting it in muriatic acid is a silly demonstration and was done only to prove that the Mission MPK titanium blade was, in fact, submersed in acid.

Perhaps we will test another soon.

  • Totally agree, which is why we thought it was safe to stop filming. I believe it was likely fractured while inside the tree, prior to "wriggling" and that removing it only revealed that it had broken.

  • Would have really liked to have seen exactly what you were doing when the blade snapped under the fatigue.

  • @ayokay123 It broke seconds after we turned the camera off. Major bummer for us. It was being "wriggled" by hand from the tree.

  • That is curious considering it is laminated steel, the outer shell is extremely flexible yet the blade looked to have no set and just snapped.

  • fail

  • @greenbeetlegear You're probably right...it fractured inside the tree from the strikes.

  • @greenbeetlegear I just find it soooo bizarre that it would break from hand wriggling and not from the direct hammer hits.
