@RyanBrooksby well turks are hardly likely to hav attempted to conquer whole of europe in one invasion, that wud be veerrryyy stupid.
Also sorry if im wrong here but wasnt byzantium's power already fading away by the time it was attacked? also remember when rome attacked tarentum they had enough gold to raise more than 10000 men or so but they didnt
No, if the Turks conquered Constantinople before 1453 and didn't get their asses kicked at Vienna, who would stop them? The Pope wanted to stop a Muslim invasion. (No offence to any Muslims.)
If Byzantium, the richest Empire at that time, couldn't stop the Turks on it's own land, how could Europe?
@RyanBrooksby Nonono crusades was like world war 1 tension was building around europe nd religion was merely an excuse to vent this out nd get lots of free conscripts while at it, nd from the popes view it was to stop the various kingdoms from fiting each other nd make them all loyal to the pope
Well think about it, the Turks did not need Constantinople, and the Crusades were launched because the Turks were invading Byzantium and would invade Europe.
Pointless really if there was no Religion. Then the Turks would have no legitimate reason to attack.
@RyanBrooksby just using rome as an example of how corruption can stop the wealth -> military conversion.
btw i dnt follow u nymore...r u saying that the turks cudve easily attked europe? cos that wud mean the crusades WERE necessary o.0

Rome didn't exist 1453.
But the Turks could've invaded, they had quite a large army and if united under Saladin they would've had more than a million men.
After-all these men come from near Persia who fielded over 300,000 men.
The Crusades didn't even launch 100,000.
