I imagine this taking place deep inside the Death Egg when it's traveling through the cosmos (Which can explain its more laidback nature compared to the previous 2 acts.). In the background you can see stars and other planets whizzing by.

Actually this is from the album Sonic & Knuckles - Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It was an official remake album of sorts but only focused on S&K.
