I would think that he's lamenting the absence of a pianist of such level of free imagination and color of music. I can think of a few pianists such as Argerich and Freire. I'm also thinking of Hough, although I feel he is more similar to Cherkassky, but they're all only a fraction...

There are. Moisieiwitsch is as good as any contemporary pianist but some equal him. What do you mean by contemporary? living like Kocsis and Pletnev or like Richter and Cherkassky?

Such musical playing! Moiseiwitsch's 1939 "Emperor" with Goerge Szell is also incredible.

It's a shame that there are no contemporary pianists today who play at or even close to this level. BTW, does anybody know who the conductor and orchestra are? Same question for nonnon86's post of Moiseiwitsch's performance of Beethoven's Fifth.
