@admiraljimmy i just got my dads with almost 180k hard miles on it. 3.4" pulley with no tune and k&n air filter. only thing needed was really replace power steering pump, tension-er, and just need to keep it parked on a flat surface as it leaks oil if parked on a sloped driveway which is a normal issue. everyone rebuilds the tranny at 100k miles anyways, we probably can get another 70-ish k miles before this engine is done :D
@admiraljimmy Oh yeah, you can't knock the engine at all, extremely solid, I think ours(used to be my dad's who gave it to me, then I gave it to my brother) has about 160k miles on it and nothing wrong with the engine, just the radiator leaks, needs a new altenator, the A/C doesn't work, and the interior is falling apart. But the engine is fine.
@MagnumPI4 Nope its for sure a 3800 v6. All w-body platforms got the 3800 except for some pontiac grand prix SE's but even most of those came with the 3800.
@andytaurus Most likely hes on original trans and for sure original engine. These 3800 V6's are near bullet proof. Theres guys on my forum running 12's with 200-250k+ all day. All it takes is some Maintenance just like any other car to get it to last a real long time.
oh i do relize that these are one of gm's best engine...but people just always assume cause a car has high milage that its a good car....people assume it all the time without knowing what work was done/what was replaced to get the car to that milage.
@andytaurus these cars are known to last without major service. The engine is also extremely reliable, all it takes is a summary of the good reviews this car has and is still getting to this very day. Some people prefer the pre 04 models over the current ones.
why do people assume that just because a car has a lot of miles that its a good car?? you dont know how much work was put into the car to get it to last that long or even if its on the original engine or transmission. to me its a good car if its on the original engine and transmission and has high milage.
