This is a group of young Dominicans playing music in a public square located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Some of they were born in the Dominican Republic and some in Washington, DC, and other countries, but they all share what they call "the Dominican flava".

Meet "La Familia".

Recorded on August 24, 2009.

  • @kyreboo I FEEL YOU 100% SAME SITUATION WITH ME

  • @BKLYNquisqueyano if dominicans didnt care about race then they wouldn't get so defensive when someone refers to them as being black.

  • @BKLYNquisqueyano there are some puerto ricans that are black and their are plenty of cubans that are considered black as well, its just that DR has the most African ancestry of all of the hispanic islands and there known for being the most ignorant or racist towards blacks because they are indenial or was tought wrong, and thats why people are so keen on telling them that they are indeed black NO MATTER what skin color or eye color or how good of hair they have, it wouldn't make a difference!

  • Lol people always want dominicans to say we black. Yet I don't see them telling PR's or cubans the samething?so if all dominicans are blk wtf am I? I'm light skin brown hair wit blue eyes so now I'm not dominican..dominicans are drk as night n as light that they could go to a kkk meetin us dominicans dnt care bout race so y should ya

  • Dude in the ballin shorts and wife beater is cute. ; )

  • @face2facechick can i ask you why are african americans always trying to tell us latinos what we are? why isit so important for you to claim us?

  • Does everyone in the americas realize that e all are mixed to an extent, but you can tell the percentage of your mixture by you color. Ligh people don't get darker, and ir you were mixed with so much white or indian you won't be that brown. Dou you know that? Genetic, I am talking. The real reason people don't adhere to saying the are black is bcause they feel thee is a stigma. and They themselve adhere to it. Happy that kid admitted to being black, but happy he also knows his ethnicity

  • @JayyNin In there a lot of racial inequality in the D.R. like in the States?

  • @whitehispanish hey, dont be like thatm we are mixed. only one of my grandfathers looks more black. the dominican republic is diverse as hell not all are black.

  • Dominicans are a trip......................
