Lance Niekro, first baseman for the Fresno Grizzlies, warms up on the mound during an August 19 Pacific Coast League game versus the Salt Lake Bees. Niekro is a knuckleballer like his father, the great Joe Niekro. Niekro pitched 2/3 of an inning, gave up three hits, hit a batter with a pitch and surrendered two runs.

  • Funny how he pitches like an infielder throws. He's essentially just making an infield throw to the catcher from the pitcher's mound. Came across this while typing in the names of past Giants prospect flops.

  • Met his dad & uncle, Phil. My good friend is his cousin. Great family, sad about what happened to Joe

  • he is a nacho man.

  • @Steele hes throwing knucklers.....

  • he played a little outfield but ya he was mainly 1B/3B

  • too bad he didn't work out for the Giants, I hope him the best as a pitcher (now) in Atlanta (?)

  • Sorry, but anyone who actually makes the majors as a hitter doesn't suck. In about a full season's worth of ABs he hit .246 with 17 HRs. Not All-Star #'s, but not "suck" territory. I suspect he could have posted better #'s if he got to play more regularly and had more seasons worth of MLB AB's under his belt.

  • he sucked as a batter
