HALO stands for "high altitude low openning" which is what we did from 21,000 feet at Skyfest 2007

  • how do you guys get your oxygen that high up?

  • @bshorty52 They have an oxygen tank in the plan. They start feeding it to us at 14k feet (they give us 40% oxygen through a mouth piece each person wears) and then at 18k feet they open it up to 80% oxygen. We continue breathing it right until the time we jump out the plane's door.

    Hope that helps!

  • Umm, yeah, it was...we jumped from 21,000 feet and I filmed it under USPA regulations. O2 was started at 14k feet at 50% and increased to 80% until we got to 21k feet. So please, if you don't know what you're talking about, keep your comments to yourself.

  • Mr. Trowe we salute you.. impressive.. at what height do you pull the chord?

  • you can hear my 2500' alarm go off on that jump so I guess I pulled my pilot chute around 3500' feet since it takes about 1000' to open.

  • never heard HALO in both military and civilian contexts being high opening low oxygen...always low opening.

anyways, awsome vid...that's a long ass jump especially freeflying! was at skyfest 2008 but did some balloon and chopper jumps instead of HALO...will do it next year!

  • cool jump m8, would you ever have time to deploy a reserve chute when opening that low?

  • I think what he means is although it's a halo, it's a long way off 30,000 feet, kind of a malo a mid altitude low openin jump :)
