Griz rally past the Vikings, 30-24

The 14th-ranked Montana football team rallied for a 30-24 win over Portland State Saturday in Missoula. A pair of Brody McKnight field goals in the fourth quarter were the difference.
The Grizzlies tied it up, 24-24, at 1:37 in the third period. Dan Moore scored on a 1-yard plunge and Kavario Middleton added the two-point conversion on a pass from Jordan Johnson. The key play of the drive was a 75-yard run by Jordan Canada.
The Grizzlies trailed 21-10 at halftime, but Canada scored on a 5-yard run with 6:55 left in the third quarter to make it 21-16. Montana's bid for a two-point conversion failed.
Portland State answered with a drive inside Montana's red zone that resulted in a short field goal, bringing the score to 24-16.
McKnight kicked a 27-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the second quarter that produced the 21-10 halftime score.
The Vikings held a 21-7 lead after a second quarter touchdown drive that was buoyed by a fake punt. Cory McCaffrey took the ball in from three yards away at 1:32 to make it 19-7, and PSU tacked on a 2-point conversion on an option run by Zach Brown.
Montana scored its first points on a 70-yard drive midway through the second quarter. Johnson scampered in on a 6-yard run to make the score 13-7.
Junior Zach Brown had just enough leg to make a 53-yard field goal attempt on the Vikings' first drive. He added a 28-yard field goal on their second possession.
A blocked punt by Portland State gave the team possession at Montana's 11-yard line early in the second quarter. The Vikings capitalized on an 8-yard TD run by quarterback Connor Kavanaugh.
Montana had just seven total yards of offense in the first quarter. It finished with 129 yards in the first half. Portland State had 191 yards in the first 30 minutes.
