For some odd reason, I kept aiming way left and my swing was getting super flat.
For the weirdest reasons, I hit a nice little fade at the target though. Some days are just plain weird, golf is unpredictable.
Here's me hitting 4-iron knockdown shot to a target about 200 yards out, this is one of my bread and butter shots that I practice a lot.
To hit the 4-iron knockdown shot, you can simply swing about 3/4 of your regular full swing.
Keep your hands super light like spaghetti, you need to "feel" this shot.
FYI, my full 4-iron goes about 210 yards.
For the knockdown, I use a narrower stance and that naturally puts my angle of attack lower. A lot of golf pros and books will tell you the opposite but I have been trying to find my method for hitting the best knockdowns.
I like a narrow stance and make sure my posture is very upright so I don't feel like I am swinging much but rather, hitting an exaggerated chip shot. (that's what it feels like, a big chip shot with a 4-iron)
The result is a nice, low and boring trajectory hitting apex near the target and dropping lifelessly.
If you hit it solid, you will still get a nice bounce and hop action on the green.
This shot can be very useful when I have to hit 200 yard par 3s where the wind might be blowing crazy. It keeps the ball under most of the hazardous wind plus you can control the ball when it lands.
oh shit.. this is at san leandro monarch range. i was just there last week.
