My truck has 2 bunks. Don't need the second one but I traded the automatic they gave me with another guy in oreintation for the 10 so we were both happy. Been with them about a month and a half now and I'm happy. Just wish they would pick lighter weight tarps. You will work your ass off thats for sure. Down time is rare.
This is probably the best company to go with if you want to learn flatbed. pretty strict on proper securement and tarping. Youll get a good foundation on how to do it. Most of the other drivers will help you out too if you need it or will help you anyway. They do run pretty legal just communicate with your manager if theres problems early on and youll be ok. My thing im not liking is there strict with the hometime(my DM is anyway) 7 days out 24 hours off. that means 24 hours.
Been with Melton for 3 yrs, love the company, miles are good...even with the bad weather..will you have slow weeks....sure....but when the freight gets going, so do you...I have no complaints here....Im driving a freightliner now.gonna be going to Im guessing a KW or Int Pro Star..either one.....and yes....we are going to e-logs....so theres some advise..no more paper logs
@kenwood223 if you request a double bunk from your recruiter in the beggining before orientation, they will do what they can to get you one. Most of the new KW 660's are singles so they would probably put you in a cascadia. I foyu tell them you will have a permanent passenger they will take care of you.
@dixietrukr Drivers come before dispatchers always....Bob Peterson has an open door policy for all drivers too. The terminals have really nice home comforts...Big screen TV rooms, nice clean showers....The tulsa terminal has a pond that you can fish in....they even have fishing poles there too. Now the work is hard, but you are taken care of as a driver. I had a family emergency once and I was 500 miles from home. I called myDriver Manager, told him, he said "you got a fuel card, get home"...
@dixietrukr I worked for Melton for about 2 years....This is the only company I have ever worked for that treats you like a person instead of a truck number....I left only because I had some personal issues at home that needed to be addressed......Since I have left, I have recieved several phone calls and letters asking when I am coming back. The equipment is top of the line, they run by the book. You will NEVER be dispatched on a load that cannot be delivered legally.
I work for melton can't complain.
