On December 16, 2011, Fermilab hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Illinois Accelerator Research Center. At the IARC, scientists and engineers from Fermilab, Argonne and Illinois universities will work side by side with industrial partners to research and develop breakthroughs in accelerator science and translate them into applications for the nation's health, wealth and security. Located on the Fermilab campus, the new 42,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will house offices, technical and educational space to study and develop cutting-edge accelerator technologies. Funding for the Illinois Accelerator Research Center comes from a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Michael Fortner for President.
