I know I've promised this one for some time so here it is. If you have this problem I recommend replacing the seals in the valve cover first and then coming back to recheck for oil in the spark plug wells in about a month or so, if you find oil then I recommend performing this procedure. I can't stress enough how important it is to make sure everything is lined up correctly when you reinstall the rocker assembly, bad things can happen if you don't.

Good luck and as always, stay dirty.

  • Great video Eric. Following your steps I just completed this job on my car. All 4 of my plug tubes were absolutely drowning in oil.

  • @trucker11686 Awesome, I love it when my videos help people. Thanks for the comment.

  • Eric, Are the torqe specs for the bolts the same for the 98-02 4 cyl. Accords?

  • @SystemXpander I believe so yes but go by the ones in the annotation NOT the video.

  • I think Eric's videos provide a great starting point for us fix-it guys. I however do not expect them to be a be-all end-all solution to all my problems therefore I do consult the specific tech spec's for my vehicles and appreciate what his experiences provide at face value.

    Thanks Eric

  • @johntrauger68 Well put, thanks for that comment.

  • continue from my last post, ok all 4 spark plugs is black which is a sign of running really rich. All the black looks the same except for cylinder 2 spark plug which have fuel on it, This is all new ngk v-power spark plugs. Exhaust smells bad like bad odor. What do you think it is, I'm redoing my timing belt and readjusting the valve now, so please, please give me some things to look for. Thank you in advance.

  • hi eric..hey got questions..i'm having trouble with my 1998 integra gsr can't seem to figure out it is. By the way i've learned alot from you and please keep up the awesome work. Ok back to my issue. My car sounds like it has a misfire but there's no check code. White smoke comes out the exhaust and smells like gas. I've changed out distributor, spark plugs and wires, map sensor, fuel injectors, fuel rail and regulator. When I change the spark plug it really black and cylinder 2 have gas on it.

  • hi eric, ive been watching your videos here lately and its been helping me out A LOT. but ive run across a problem and thought you could help me out - here's what i got...

i was changing my camshaft positioning sensor when i noticed my valve cover gasket needing to be replaced (a very small amount of oil leaking). i dont know what brought me to do this, but i pulled one of my spak plugs out and ONLY FROM THE THREADED SIDE DOWN THERE WAS OIL! top of the spark plug WAS DRY. 03 pt cruiser..help?

  • hey Eric, how do you spin the engine to make sure everything is moving right?

  • Eric ur always supposed to "walk up" on the desired torque setting, never "walk down" to the desired torque... didn't know if you knew this or not, good vid m8!

  • okay, so i have a 99 accord lx, 2.3 4 cylinder. and it's drinking oil... burning..idk.. i think it's taking 1 pint of oil for every 200-400 miles... i mean, it cleans my oil out within a month after having an oil change, would this be the cause of it for my car too?? do i have to change those rings or is it something out, please help... :/

  • @accordaffair Thanks :-/

  • so i followed your video when doing my car but when i turn the crankshaft manually piston number 2 exhaust valve pops upwards when cycled. does this mean that the valves are bent??
