Step Up-Step Down drivers for powerful LEDsLEDs are becoming more and more popular nowadays. This results in a growing demand for LED drivers which are produced by dozens of companies, including such famous manufacturers as Texas Instruments, National Semiconductor, Maxim, IR, and others.ON Semiconductor produces a wide variety of LED drivers using various energy conversion technologies. One of the company's product lines includes Step Up/Step Down drivers for powerful LEDs.Driver circuit has voltage step-up and step-down modes which depend on correlation of input voltage and the number of connected LEDs in the circuit.Main parameters of Step Up/Step Down drivers and their areas of application are shown in the table.Drivers with NCV prefix are used in automobile industry and have temperature range from -40 to +125ะก. The drivers have a built-in power transistor. There is also a dimming function which allows to control current through LEDs.High operating frequency (up to 250 kHz) allows to use inductance coils of small sizes and low rated values.NCP3063 driver was developed as a pulse regulator to be used in DC/DC converters. So it can be used to create a current generator for powering circuits of powerful LEDs.
