Teenage Wasteland

A new initiative from the Home Office to stop teenagers from beating each other senseless in a hormonal frenzy, which apparently is what's happening, "This Is Abuse" (the logo, unseen here, features the name in obligatory faux-graffiti font on a paint-splotch background, naturally) comes complete with PIFs directed by no less than Shane Meadows (you know - Twenty Four Seven, A Room for Romeo Brass, Dead Man's Shoes, This is England) in which an ugly boy with just slightly too middle-class an accent menaces a teenage Zoe Tapper clone. There are two PIFs, showing the same incident twice, with both participants' inside voices being depicted as powerless Phantom Zone inmates, hammering away at the barriers of space and time in impotent rage at the highly dispiriting goings-on. The last shot (which is the same in both versions) is terrifically understated and disturbing.
