Paths to Progress, is a 19-minute documentary-style film produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture showing slices of life from USDA direct-hire employees working on Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRT) in Afghanistan. The film can also be viewed at www.usda.gov/afghanistan .
This is a tremendous film that tells a riveting story about the important role our USDA staff are playing in Afghanistan, said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. Since 2003, USDA employees from locations across the United States have volunteered their unique skills to help Afghanistan rebuild its agricultural economy and regain its political and social stability. President Obama has placed USDAs role in providing agricultural knowledge and expertise at the center of a new strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I hope the example provided by the brave men and women in the film and the dozens of others not in the film will inspire others to volunteer.
The film was produced by USDAs Office of Communications. USDA filmmakers traveled to four different Afghan provinces over a one-month period. The team interviewed USDA agricultural experts, military and government officials, and Afghan citizens and government officials to get a real sense of the difference USDA projects are making in the lives of Afghan people.

  • @tla123456 , there are woods in certain parts of the country.. but for the most part of the country its semi arid climate.. there has been a lot of deforestation and a lot of desertification due to over exploitation for fire wood. There is a lot of timber smugglers also because its a lawless country..

  • using only 20 out of 75 BCM of available water resources in a country where 80% of the country's people are living life with Agriculture should be listed as the top priority in terms of country development. I have heard from many, that the problem is with spatial and temporal distribution of water.....Man!!! what can't be done if the available resources are properly utilized. being the second largest contributer to Amu Darya we are just a baby in terms of its usage (only 2%)..

    good work

  • good work.

  • great job, we need more of this.

  • Great effort....i think more reconstruction and similar projects will see the coalition win the hearts and minds of the majority. This is ofcourse a better strategy than fighting only.

  • very nice.
