A basic video on how to wire a bonsai trunk.
- Choose a gage of wire that will be able to hold the wood in place.
- Cut to length the amount of wire you think you'll need.
- Anchor the wire into the soil.
- Coils should be at a 45-degree angle to the trunk, clockwise or counter-clockwise as you prefer.
- Cut the excess wire.
- Bend the trunk, but be careful not to bend it to the point of breaking. This point varies by species, but always support the outside of a bend with your fingers.
- Watch out for scars as the tree grows and the trunk expands but the wire does not! Remove the wire if it starts to cut in to the bark.
- Wiring a branch is the same technique except for the anchoring.
- Wires can be coiled adjacent to each other for added strength.
