The Gambir Anom dance depicts a prince imagining his lover. In the refined male (alus) style, the dance, performed in a low, open stance, with a smooth, contained energy, is often performed by a woman. While some of the movements represent actions such as shading the eyes from the light, adjusting parts of his clothing, or reaching for his lover, others have no specific meaning.
