This is information I compiled together to help you gather gil at an efficient rate of up to 48000 gil per battle. The info has been collected from various sources, but most of the credit goes to Kouli, who gave me the initial idea to begin with.

First, the requirements:
- AF100 Bresha Ruins unlocked
- Reasonably well developed characters and a good monster with Commando role (Kichu for example)
- Must have beaten the game (not sure on this)

The following is highly recommended, but not necessary:
- Master Encounter fragment skill (9th skill in the menu) - increases or decreases the chance of random encounter [the skill is unlocked by collecting all fragments from Yaschas Massif timelines - cannot confirm 100%]
- Battle Mania fragment skill (10th skill in the menu) - increases the chances of rare enemy popping up [the skill is unlocked by covering all in-game maps 100%]
- Master Clock fragment skill (15th skill in the menu) - speeds the game up, or slows it down [the skill is finding all fragments]

You'll also need a Gold Chocobo, which is found in AF700 Dying World in a secret cubic treasure chest (use moogle hunt) - north of the bridge leading to the western area, just follow the border and you'll find it.

As for Kichu, it can be found in Archylte Steppe. Go S from nomad settlement and look for patch of red flowers in the grass. Once found, toss Moogle into the patch a few times and Kichu's yours.

Now, let's begin.

1. Level up your Gold Chocobo until it's at lv45, which is its max LV. Maxed out Goldie has A speed and A stamina, making it a very good candidate to winning chocobo races in the Casino.
2. Keep winning races until you get to Fal'Cie class - here aim for race called "Dahaka's stake" (ダハーカステークス). If the race doesn't appear, you can use certain items to refresh the race list and see if it comes up.
3. Obtain Collector's Catalog (グッドチョイス) by winning the race "Dahaka's stake" (ダハーカステークス).
4. Obtain 2x Sunpetal (陽の花弁), which is a rare drop from Microchu. These guys can be found in Archylte steppe, W region, during the rains.
5. Obtain 2x Phoenix Blood (フェニックスの血), which can be bought at the casino for 1600 chips (equivalent of 16000 gil).
6. Go to Archylte Steppe's Chocolina shop and buy [Collector's Catalog "Heavy Formula"] (グッドチョイス 重式) for 40000 gil.
7. Properties of upgraded Collector's Catalog are: increased chance of getting rare item, more gil dropped by enemies, and getting more items.

Now for the bonanza.

1. Go to AF100 Bresha Ruins and equip upgraded Collector's Catalog.
2. If you have them, turn on Master Encounter, Battle Mania and Master Clock frag-skills. Also play on Normal Mode.
3. Roam around and avoid unnecessary encounters by running from them. Wait for a black sphere to pop up, causing the screen to go black-and-whitish. This means that Don Tonberry has spawned.
4. Approach the sphere and whack it to get Preemptive Strike on Don.
5. Don is not terribly difficulty opponent to defeat, and can take you about 90 seconds to kick its ass.
6. Now the battle spoils! If you get 5* ranking, you get [Rare drop 320% Up] and [Item drop 500% Up]. Don itself drops 18360 gil, Scarletite (ヒヒイロカネ) in 99% cases, and in rare instances Hermes Sandals (エルメスの靴).
7. Scarletite can be sold for 18700 gil, and Hermes Sandals for 11000 gil.
8. In the end, your net profit can be 48060 gil per battle.

  • My don dropped 12240g alone, with one upgraded collectors catalog equiped, do I need 2 for him to drop 18360g?

  • @puredruid Yes. Gilfinder passives stack. If you have it, include a monster with Gilfinder II when you finish off Don Troll to increase gil profit even more.

  • @SplitPlaythru You know that Skill Fragment that allows harder bosses to appear, where can I get that?

  • @GagasFanScotty Beat the game, then visit the chocobo mystic in Serendipity to get Paradox scope.

  • gold choco maxed still lost the race >,<

  • @energon5005 It's not 100% victory. Even if you score 2nd, or 3rd, you get some coins.

I know Gil drops stacks, but when I finish the fight, the item drop still shows 500%....? any idea? Also, does the Monster that equip GIlfinder II has to be at the moment finish the fight?
