Outdoor Wood Boilers Are Big polluters. A study by Northeast States Coordinated Air Management (NESCAUM) in 2008 found the EPA test methods for OWBs may under represent real world emissions by a factor of 4. 1 OWB = 3000 - 8000 gas furnaces in pollution (Ct. DEP website). Wood smoke is filled w/dangerous fine particulates (PM 2.5). We all deserve to breath clean air. OWBs are not allowed in the State of Washington. In NYS Gov Paterson is doing nothing to stop this kind of pollution. NYS DEC staff estimate 40,000 owb's. It is estimated that by 2010 OWBs could contribute almost 900,000 tons of particulate matter. If you're concerned about Clean Air write Gov. Paterson, State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224 and tell him to ban all OWBs. We want the same air rights as citizens of the State of Washington. Why is NYS 20 years behind the times?

  • And when its 80 degress out this guy is 100ft from my 3 story house and my 12 year old cant have her windows open. this guy had to after 6 years remove his stove. Now he has a indoor one just as bad and as much smoke just to heat his hot water.. I burn wood in a indoor stove. My chimmy on start up a small amount of smoke I know how to burn this bum doesnt care to learn. He will ruin it for all

  • ehhi.org/reports/woodsmoke/

  • So oil is any less of a polluter? Well then lets all stop driving cars ect ect ect....There are ways to stop that wood pollution....filters ect....seems to me it is alot harder to clean up the spill in the gulf....

  • @mushmush7 If wood is burned at a high temp its fine. These stoves can not do that. Even the new ones cant. Solar is the way to go! If you care about fish and our children you will agree

  • The only stoves that are any good are the pellet the rest are polluters

  • I have an outdoor gasification boiler as well as an airtight stove. Outdoor gasifiers can, and do, burn clean. To say that they cannot achieve a high combustion temp is absolutely false. This particular person does need a lesson in proper burning, but to lable all owb polluters is a gross overstatement. All units will smoke on start-up or loading of fresh wood, even my indoor unit does this. Drive by a coal fired power plant sometime! Or any manufaturer, asphalt plant, etc.

  • If my neighbor complains about mine we can resolve the problem easily. I will det rid of it, and he can reimburse me 8k for the cost of it, the difference in my electric bill(about 100 a month) and he better not look at me sideways

  • Woodstoves are great. They are not "polluters." People have been burning wood forever and guess what, the world still turns and the environment is cleaner than ever.

  • @saltysam203 Our kids and fish will be just fine even with these outdoor boilers. Solar sucks. If someday they improve the effiiciency of solar, maybe solar will be decent but right now solar and wind are a waste of time and money.

  • Whether it is banned or not, it doesn't do any good. I live in Massachusetts and it is banned where I live and the people next door to me have had one running illegally for 6 years. So much for laws.
