I wonder if it's possible to erase a drive while booted into an operating system that is stored on that same drive.
I guess it is, hypothetically, because everything the OS needs should be loaded into RAM, but I'm not sure.

Is Secure erase still good to use? Is Dban something to avoid? I was just reading that the NSA no longer supports Secure erase. :/
I have several thousand hard drives to wipe next year that will have to go through security to verify that the data cannot be recovered.
