(TEMPERAMENT: Werckmeister III). Though not properly a "trio", "Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ" BWV 639 is the only melody chorale written in three voices in the whole "Orgelbüchlein".
According to Peter Williams ("The Organ Music of J. S. Bach", Cambridge, 2nd Edition, p. 308), the slurs (l.h.) may point to a sostenuto approach. In his excellent "Bach Interpretation - Articulation Marks in Primary Sources of J. S. Bach", 1990, John Butt stresses that these slurs for organ probably indicate a varied or articulated legato in the French manner. The same author writes: "Clearly, most slurs in Bach's music indicate that the notes are to be grouped in some way. However, the exact function of the slur can only be conjectured from its context."

  • I love your interpretation. Sounds very good

  • @toxiconegro

    Thank you very much Daniel.

This is a kind of "de profundis"... I will probably replay it with almost no ornamentation.

I will also try to upload all the remaining chorale preludes of the Orgelbüchlein.

    Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.

  • @GilbertoGuarino "ornamentation" doesnt have to mean superficially beautifying the "essential". An "ornament" may mean and feel like an overflow of the deepest emotion, some shivering of the core of the soul. by the way: are you counting mistakes? who was it that said: I prefer 10 mistakes of a good performance than 10 bad performances without a mistake. perhaps it was me. in my opinion -- there are much more important and satisfying things to listen to that the correctness of notes.

  • @eliyaguy Sure!... I totally agree.

  • I think it's amazing how some of the most contemplative and melancholy musical pieces came from Christian artists working for the Church. Today, most so-called Christian music is extremely upbeat and simplistic.

  • This reminds me of Tarkovsky's Solaris.Great Job.

  • @TheTokit No me extraña que te haya arrancado lágrimas. A mí me ha faltado poco. Un saludo cordial.

  • Pero bueno ¡qué cosa tan bonita! Tan expresiva, tan sentida. Muchas gracias por compartir con nosotros esta altísima hermosura.

  • very moving and beautiful

  • SOLARIS!!!!!!!

  • @enarchay That's not Christian music, that's called Protestant music Lol! Even Bach's music is much to "Catholic" for the Lutheran church now-a-days.

  • I would love to hear this live
