i think the elephant knows that mouse is also a living thing and does not want to harm it because it is not a danger for him. we humans do the same with small animals when we see them. we do not want to squash them so we avoid just like elephant did with the mouse and i am sure he would do the same with other small animals if it can see them.

they should see if elephants go balistik or not when they are near other small animals (bigger than the mouse.) or simply try to avoid it like with the mouse. if they freak out with the small animals they are afraid of them or if it simply back up from it they are simply trying to avoid it.

they need to revisit this.

I think it's just about respect small animals, and Elephant will do the same with another small animals, show us another small animals to judge

That's an older elephant who's been socialized to humans, so it's naturally more mellow, but with a younger male in the wild, a freak-out is pretty likely. So call it confirmed, and be grateful you didn't get a real demonstration of an elephant going rogue.

Elephants are not afraid of mice specifically. They are, like many other species, afraid of things they have not seen before. Circus elephans however, whom have seen mice before, are not afraid of them.

I'd rather say that elephants are social animals and prefer to give other animals their space. Also, maybe elephants are just as unaware of their size as dogs are.
