My first drawing video! (My first video period)
This tutorial shows many tools and functions of Photoshop Elements 6.0 (and later versions) like adding textures, getting lines from a scanned lineart, layers, groupings, and more!

Lineart and Color by me,

Characters:
Vincent and Luna Solaris, my original characters

Program:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0
(It came free with my pen tablet)

Tools:
Paper, .5 mm pencil, Sakura Micron
inking pen (005), a scanner, Wacom
Bamboo Fun Pen tablet (5x8 I believe)

I have my pen tablet programed so the left and right buttons on it are really [ and ], which change your brush size on most versions of photoshop, and a button on my pen was programmed to be ctrl+z, which = undo. These really save a lot of time while drawing; I highly reccomend doing that.

Captured by HyperCam 2, which I downloaded from here: http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/downloads.asp
(No viruses so far xD)

Thanks for watching!!!

  • please i really need to know how you made that brush to color clothing :(

which buttons did you press to make that brush, what did you do.please comment back thank you

  • @nanamimiko96 So I use the first brush that's listed on the brush selection. The real basic one, that doesn't vary in opacity. On PSE 6, there's a brush option menu next to the airbrush symbol, it's the one that has pen pressure options like size, opacity, hue jitter, roundness, ect with little check boxes next to it. I have the size box unchecked and the opacity box checked. I use [ and ] for quick size changes. Mess around with different options for varying brushes, and I hope this helps!!!

  • how do you select the black colour(lines) only? near the beginning 1:07

  • @InfiniteBlueSky

Right after scanning, I press ctrl+L and change the levels around so that there is a very limited gray area in the lines. Basically, I make the lines a consistent color. This helps the next step, when I use the magic wand tool to select "black" I give it a low tolerance so that only the black on the picture is selected. Then I invert the selection, so that everything /but/ black is selected, and I press del. If everything was done right, you should be left with only the lines.

  • @DaPuddingMonster Thanks for the help ^_^, I've been always wondering how people coloured images without colouring over the black lines. Again Thanks for your help, Life saver

  • @InfiniteBlueSky

No problem! And of course, there's always the option to just put the scan layer on the 'multiply' setting, but I never use that because it leaves me without the options to edit the lines if i want to or to change the colors. Although, it can give the picture a cool paper texture. :)
