Tobias Rehberger's project for Galleria illy

From the first meeting with Tobias Rehberger to the opening of Galleria illy @ KaDeWe in Berlin - a long project by illycaffè and the german artist winner of the Leone d'Oro at 53rd Venice Biennale.

In 2008 illycaffè and Tobias Rehberger met and started working on a new project for the illy Art Collection cups series, in 2009 illycaffè was sponsor of the 53rd International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia while Tobias was chosen to design the new cafeteria at Biennale's Giardini. The leitmotif of Tobias' project was camouflage: the cup seems to fade away within the bar, in an unusual optic effect. During Biennale, Tobias was also awarded with the Leone d'Oro and after Biennale, illy and Tobias Rehberger decided to keep working together. Tobias started then working on a project exclusively dedicated to the new Galleria illy editions in Berlin and Istanbul.

After New York, Milan and Trieste editions in 2005, 2006 and 2008, two new Galleria illy locations, the company's signature, exhibition spaces, are opening in 2010 in Berlin on September 2, and in Istanbul on October 1.
Galleria illy in Berlin (September 2-25) will be located inside KaDaWe, the iconic, world-renowned department store; in Istanbul (October 1-24), Galleria illy will be hosted at Foundation Feyziye Mektepleri's Galleria Işık Teşvikiye. located in the Nişantaşı neighborhood.
