What you are seeing is not a competition bench press. Mike Brown bridges (or arches) his back to get better leverage. There is a reason for this. The strength you gain from bridging or arching will "spill over" to your strict lifts. What you do with a strict lift will never "spill over" to a heavier bridge lift.

  • Wow. He puts me to shame. I was happy when I got up 225 a month ago.

  • @ediot6969 I suspect your technique (breathing, hand position, etc.) could use some improvement which in turn would boost the amount of weight you could lift. Mike

  • Ok i need to know about those partial reps he was doing at first. I've seen people do that before and i just figured they had no idea what they were doing but it seems that Mike would know better. Can somebody tell me what's up with that??

  • @Jerrush1 A muscle has more potential power the further it contracts. That is--the amount of power you can produce at the top of the lift is far greater than that which you can produce at the bottom. Note that no one can handle the same amount of weight coming off the chest than they can at full extension.

Partials allow you to train from the strongest point down, not the weakest point up. Your strength will then "spill over" from the stongest points to the weaker ones. Mike

  • why limit people posts...we will just mention you elsewhere on other utubes...you can run but you cannot hide the truth

  • @incliner62 I guess you're cutting and pasting your posts to more than one of Mike's videos. Can't you come up with an original comment? Are you jealous?

  • to mike; i often train with partials at my weakest points is that as, more or less effective than training with partials at the strongest points

  • @ediot6969 225 is a lot of weight on the bench...Don't let other kids on youtube tell you otherwise. The average adult male only puts up around 165 on bench press. This guy is like 1 in a million. Nobody benches 315 or even 225 over 60 years old lol.

  • seeing u lift made me realized that i am not strong.

  • wtf...this is crazy....man...shit lol dunno what to say...nice..

  • holy shit, my max is 120kg. i'd love to see three plates a side jangling, like this.

  • Wow, those were some good reps dude! Way to use full range of motion!

  • i was so dissapointed when lady a turned off

  • i cant even come close
