Why the hell does it have to "mean" something. It means what it means to different people. That is the beauty of great art. It MOVES your HEART AND EMOTIONS it's not a cerebral thing. Why does it have to make sense ?????? I'm sick of art critics justifying their air time by coming up with pretentious critiques of whatever (whether it's music poetry or painting). You cannot analyse music that moves you. And why try ??? Doing this demeans and insults the art. P.S. This is a gem.

I've always just thought it was about a woman.. or a horse. Not some deep racial shit. Obviously racism lurks in the minds of ALL men, to the point where it discredits a beautiful song played by beautiful people. Listen people, the universe does not generate LOVE, WE DO! and until you start loving, you can't truly expect to receive love. Exercise common human decency, the most basic form of love. This is how love will change the world, and save ourselves.. One kindness at a time..

omg! why do you folks have to have a strong opinion about a good song. this is the first thing i remember after my grandma's death and it brought me comfort because it was similar to her background. i was 6 years old and didn't know a thing about drugs or politics. can we please approach this with less spite? i honestly do not see a connection with racism, politics or drugs. i've always thought this was a song about a cowboy's wish about a horse. maybe i'm naive, but i choose to stay that way

The very strong mental imagery this track invokes, and always has invoked in me is wonderful...I think, since people started analising Beatles and Dylan songs (and coming up with bollocks, as can be seen by everyone disbelieving John, and Paul who was apparently there at the time, when they've constantly said that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds was NOT about acid), it seems EVERYTHING MUST HAVE a meaning...Just sit, listen and appreciate records for what they are....Music! All the best, buddy.

Written by Roger McGuinn and Jacques Levy during 1969 for a planned country rock musical named "Gene Tryp". That's it kids. It was part of what McGuinn described in subsequent interviews as part of a 'Rock Opera.". Now go home and eat your 'shrooms
