I demonstrate how to make a quicky knife sheath from thin walled PVC pipe. It's quick to do and cheap. The pvc pipe can be easily softened for forming with a heat gun (paint stripper). Sort of a redneck Kydex thing. LOL!

What size pipe do you need?....The formula for the circumference of a circle is useful in this situation:
The circumference of a circle = Pi x diameter (the pipes I.D.) (Pi= 3.14)
Then just calculate the maximum distance around the outside of the knife blade and compare it to the internal circumference dimensions of the available pipe choices.
There are I.D./ O.D. dimesions for pipe on the web. Just Google "PVC pipe dimensions" to find these web pages.

  • i have to say thats cool

  • @iwantosavemoney Thanks! It is a neat project and it introduces some creative ways to work with PVC pipe.

  • What's a ranger band?

  • @BlodOgTorden It's a very strong rubberband made from a piece of vehicle innertube.

  • Is there a formula for the width of the knife to the ID of the PVC?

  • @RonRay In the video description (below the video) I have included a formula for discovering the circumfrance of a circle. You have to measure the knife dimensions but you can calculate the I.D. circumference of the pipe and discover what diameter pipe you need for your knife. I've also included information about obtaining actual internal diameter dimensions for pipe.

  • That's pretty slick dude! I will remember this when I decide to replace the crappy nylon sheath that came with a Gerber fixed blade I have.

  • i've watched this video 3 times and I think i'm about ready to make one, just need to get the right size PVC.

  • @CrypticCRICKET

Thank you. Sorry for not seeing that, but in my browser, I thought I was looking at 'ALL' of the information (without clicking the "Show More" button). Turns out, there is a space between what I thought was the end of info and the next paragraph.

Had I just used my old jurassic brain, I would have remembered the basic pi r squared formula. (also c= pi d) :P
