'Rapunzel - The Blonde Years' is a fresh quirky twist on the classic fairytale, marrying all the charm and romantic aspirations of the original with modern themes of self-sufficiency and liberation. Helmed by award-winning director, Fiona Ashe, this medieval comedy drama was inspired by the Monty Python approach to storytelling. It was produced by Trish Groves as one of ten films commissioned by the Irish Film Board under its innovative new Virtual Cinema scheme.

The lower-resolution version of this movie on the Virtual Cinema page has gone viral with more than 50,000 hits!

I like this Director's Cut because there's twice as much fun with ladders, and Jonathan's musical score can really shine. Orlaith and Gordon are just super as Rapunzel and the Handsome Prince.

Short film buffs will be interested to know that it is this short version which has screened at festivals all around the world.
