  • Actually, it seems that Amiga and Atari ST versions are mostly identical with the possible exception of music (which may be slightly better on Amiga). My speculation is that they both use mostly the same code especially since both A500 and ST use 68000 as their CPU.

  • @uggla03

1980's Amiga games were ported via the Atari ST computers

they would've had as bad audio as the Atari ST (port) version

  • Bien joué eul glaude!!!!!!

  • Anyone else notice the character not doing anything in the face of adversity is speaking French?

  • Yes the Amiga sound chip is more powerful, but the ST could pump out some classic tunes.

  • @1971abynx That was why I thought it would take some effort to adapt the sound of Ghosts'n Goblins for ST. However, apparently the arcade version of G'nG used two Yamaha YM2203 chips for sound while ST used Yamaha YM2149F. According to the Wikipedia YM2203 includes also "Full internal implementation of Yamaha's YM2149F SSG chip". So, adapting the sound of the arcade version for ST isn't necessarily as difficult as I thought although it may require some compromises.

  • @DamoclesAlpha Well, the Amigas sound chip was the Paula.. and the sound chip of the ST was from an Amstrad CPC 464 if I remember correctly... that makes the St as having a sound chip not even comparable to what was put in the C64.

  • @8824shyte While often arcade conversions for Atari ST and Amiga weren't as good as they could have been, it should be remembered that even those arcade games which used 68000 as main CPU commonly had also additional, specialized hardware which often was superior to the hardware of home computers/consoles at the time. However, I think that the hardware of both ST and Amiga would have been enough for virtually perfect conversion of G'nG with some minor adjustments (sound for ST, colors for both).

  • @8824shyte wow really, how intriguing and interesting that you would know that. Your wealth of knowledge is intense for someone like you

  • watAHHH wataHH Whupeesh Whuppeshh ooooooooohh!!

  • The Amiga music was better!!!
