But to say MMA is not useful in self-defense is also an ignorant conclusion. The man who trains in as many applications as he can will most likely be the best suited to protect himself. I train in Krav maga, western boxing, and Filipino Kali. If i "mix" the concepts and techniques in my head isn't that an MMA ?? I don't want to fight on the ground, i wanna be able to get away, BUT isnt it useful to study BJJ (or equivelant) in case i find myself on the ground?

there is no BEST self-defense system. THere are only violent encounter survivors and dead meat in the morgue. The only thing that is useless is doing nothing. YOU WILL FIGHT LIKE YOU TRAIN. If you are looking and waiting for a "tapout" you had better be in a ring with a ref and a fan base. If you are on the street those chokes and armbars have a different, more final purpose. The gracie brothers understood this long before the UFC became a spectacle like pro wrestling.

@SHARKREEF2011 Absolutely agree with you.

@leoosiku they dont train and they dont spar.only those who dont fight say mma/pro mma doesnt work in the street.
it does

@dukehitchcock stand up submission.and where do u train in kali?
-
@uruguayMSH after a 3 gun experiances,street,u need the full contact to engage.
the gun is more psychological=real fear.real danger,the knife is even more(10 inch ginzu),man when a weightlifter,ex con on crack is running at u with a ginzu,the physical training works for evading.but u really need a gun.
-
@uruguayMSH disagree.real mma works on street.as for the 70 year old.bullcrap,unless hes profeciant in kali/silat/arnis kife figting.
otherwise HAHAHAAH.
you guys dont train...keyboard warriors

@neilneazer u grapple with glass on the ground.believe me u dont feel it ,until after.as for concrete,you roll on concrete also,IF NEEDED-,u need to find a school that legitimate.or to start lessons.sounds like u dont train.
but i do agree with what you r saying on the mma,somewhat.however i feel u r wrong on the other points,and yes,i have experianced "real life"crime,and grappled on broken plate glass,and rolled and submitted on concrete.with a gun stuck iun my stomach

@leoosiku The point being made is if the fight goes lethal, the MMA type guy is not necessarily prepared to deal with a knife or a handgun due to the change in situational dynamics. A shark is not much of a threat out of water. While being incredibly fit and trained grapplers and boxers NONE of their competitive training addresses a force multiplier like an edged weapon or a firearm. The math changes at that point.Take "MMA" out of the ring and include weapon based training = a true warrior.

it's fake! you show no reality!!!

It is fucking hilarious when random douchebag commenters like you think you know more than a guy who is a recognized expert in this field.
I must agree with you too (but only in a certain way). Just remember that you will react as you have been trained and when weapons are present the full contact toughness it is not the main weapon.
