I think that is Harry "The Hat" Walker being chased by the home plate umpire after complaining mildly about Perry throwing a spitter. Walker turned the 1966 Pirate ball club into a hitting jaggernaut...Clemente was the NL MVP in '66. Matty Alou played center and won the batting championship. Willie Stargell was in left field. Manny Mota hit around .320 and could not crack the starting lineup. Awesome ballclub but they were short on pitching and lost the pennant to the Dodgers on the last day.

I threw a spit ball about 15 times a game all the way through high school and collage. Easy to hide. Put the slimy spit between the two fingers, don't take them abart.

Perry co-wrote a book in 1974 called "Me and the Spitter", in which he came clean on his spitball secrets. MLB had just added a rule where umpires could use their judgement as to a pitch being illegal. Sure slowed Gaylord down- he pitched ten more years, won a Cy Young Award, and won 137 games in that period- he was one of my favorites growing up...

Perry, did this all the time when he pitched for Cleveland..Toughest competitor I ever saw....Never wanted to come out of a game..Drove Bobby Murcer of the Yankees nuts..1972 AL Cy Young Award Winner..HOF!
