this was much more complicated to make than it looks.

first off, the justice track and the original fatboy slim track were completely different speeds. weapon of choice is kind of a slow groove, and d.a.n.c.e. is an uptempo tune which is about 30% faster. i knew i wanted to speed up christopher walken to match the justice track, so i spent a long time speeding up the fatboy slim track to match the bpm (beats per minute) of the justice track. basically i just looked at audio waveforms and looked for a section where the spikes clearly showed the beat patterns, and once you match these spikes, you have synced audio.

after syncing the justice track with the fatboy track in the video, i just killed the fatboy track entirely. next step was to match the first of christopher's dance moves with the 'drop' section in the justice track. i just eyeballed this, and then you have christopher walken starting his dance when the beat drops. now christopher walken is dancing to the beat of the justice track, and he starts at the right time.

new problem though, is that since i sped up christopher walken 30%, the actual video is 30% shorter, and the video ended about halfway through the justice track. at first i thought about just fading out, but then the OCD in me kicked in and i figured i could just rewind him halfway through and then magically have both end at the same time.

i knew i wanted the track to reverse when he jumps back into the air. problem though, is that wasn't exactly halfway (it was at probably 70%). so i ended up just remixing the audio and extending it by isolating a handful of repetitive bars and then just copypastecopypaste. that was tedious. eventually though, i added enough new audio that the whole reverse thing worked out. if you notice, the originaly justice track is ~3:40 and in my video it is ~1 minute longer.

someone asked about 2:06, why christopher walken is kind of stuttering. it is one of the few areas where i edited the actual video. it's mainly just for building suspense and effect.
the only other thing in the actual video that i messed with is the flying scenes. to make all the timing and everything work, i sped up the flying scene even faster than the rest of the audio. since he isn't really dancing to any beat, you don't notice that it is sped up at all. it helped me time my favorite part, where he jumps back into the picture in reverse when the song climaxes.

also, the song in general matches really well with the actions in the video. i did cheat a little though and extend the song a few bars right before he jumps off the balcony into the air; i wanted him to jump right as that breakdown started.

oh, and the two bell dings were samples that i added later. i think that was the last thing i did.

very happy with how it came out. in retrospect i just wish i used a better quality video source! oh well...

  • @jasiothemity there's much more to it than that. read the description.

  • Walken is so cool, this is how he checks into hotels. The truth is that this happens at incredibly fast speeds and special cameras had to be used to capture this and slow it down so that we mere mortals can see it.

  • I can't stop listening this tune! Freaking awesome!

  • @jasiothemity haters gonna hate

  • Impressive !

I'm liking the remix, do you have a download link for it in a better quality ?

  • Its a good bit of editting. Even without reading the description you could see some effort must've been put into this to try and match walked to the beat of the music (which worked very well). However the whole thing is much more interesting with the description saying just how much effort you went to, nice job electrobutter!

  • hell because they have to change the original music

  • @TheMuffinMan130 What?

  • @johnnyrckt I think that's the first time I've ever actually heard anyone actually take offense to that statement.

  • @TheMuffinMan130 Racist!
