  • Thank you for the info. This really helps me wrap my head around holds procedure turn and entries.

  • This isn't a bad explanation but A: It is always referenced from you flying a north heading and doesn't explain DME holds. For example say you are flying a heading of 290 but are southeast of a VOR and are told to hold on the VORs 200 radial, southwest of, 10 dme, standard turns. You would approach the fix at ~90 degrees and would then have to turn left 90 degrees to fly 200 deg. outbound from the fix for 1 min then make a left 225 deg turn for a Parallel entry to intercept 020 inbound to fix.

  • when cleared to hold on a fix 1- tune ident 2- set the vor TO and needle centered 3-fly direct VOR 4- determine the entry 5-inrange and descent checks 6- RAWLEF.. R- Reason for holding might be emergency or high traffic whatever A- approach to expect W-weather L- lower( if you are willing to change your altitude ask center) E- expect further clearance F- fuel make sure you've got enough fuel for t/o departure+enroute+one approach+one missed approach+ flt to alternate+45 minutes cruise
  • Thats easy, but that method does not apply to intersections[fixes] or DME's..

Or even one like: "Skyhawk123, hold east of the FIM, left turns" and you are coming on 270 inbound"..

  • I have to say, Jason, I've been having trouble with holding pattern entries. I get it now, excellent video!

  • The parallel entry looks a bit awkward. Will you not be going against traffic just before entering the holding pattern?

  • Thank's, that's easy!

  • speed the controller voice up x4 and it would be more realistic!

  • eXcellent

  • perfect

    thank you : )
