I love McCoy Tyner so much. Coltrane's the star here, obviously, but man... Chills, every time I hear him. That beautiful, wide open, modern sound with all those stacked 4ths...

John will always stand up till the end of time - this is wonderful

Must be cold out there

@mkshead this is a classic quartet rendition. i like it because u can hear jimmy. him and elvin like the same 'tings' but man i love how jimmy makes it all seem so elastic. he did this as well in the final quintet - stretch the groove out - but when u listen to say live at village vanguard again you can t hear him, thus the big solo.

This is not just MUSIC... this is THE VOICE OF GOD...
I have heard many versions of this by Coltrane, and by other groups. However, this one is becoming one of my favorites, because of the way the group goes into a half hip 3/4 beat (sometime during McCoy's solo), and Coltrane's bold, take charge tenor sax return. The group is right on queue with him, (even though each members performance could be a solo). The first time I saw this video come to an end reminded me of why I've loved this music all my life!

@mkshead Yeap, I don't think I've heard any better version of Naima. It's all about the way it keeps building up slowly in intensity till eveything just bursts, I guess. When it cleans up and he plays the theme at the end, it's like you've gone for a journey and came back.
