I think the song is called Celtic Rain, and it's by Mike Oldfield...

The real Ghonella had a (believe it or not) whale bone on the top to keep the curve, not like these girls are wearing. I believe I saw the last lady to wear one on a daily basis in Msida back in the 70's.

My grandmother called it a "Faldetta" I've never heard it called Ghonnella

Very cool video brings back wonderful memories... When I was little my grandparents had an old photo of a relative wearing this kind of dress hanging on there wall. I think it was my great great grandmother.

Very interesting montage - wish to know the origin of the captivating music.
My family is one of the last remaining in Gozo where an Ghonnella is still available to wear. Those Ghonnella you see date back to the beginning of the 20th century and my late grandmother and her sisters used them. For those who commented about the kind of music and siren I couldn't find any downloadble traditional music at that time of putting this video online and the siren can just be skipped. I know our dearest relatives hated it but I somehow find it enjoyable
