Large corporations own many of the most popular participatory media websites on the Internet. We're talking about spaces that could end up becoming one of the most important tools to reinvigorate our democracy. What makes us so willing to trust corporations with online participatory media?

  • Not so subtle changes at utube: The rapid disappearance of sites like Churchcommittee and Veredictum (simply copyrights problems?) and new sites like -cannmedia- where opposing comment will not get posted. Enter NBC, Warner - which utube central is very happy about (just advertizing revenue?) - the sellout/buyout, begins.

  • Yup it's true - but it seems like most people here don't mind. I find that amazing, don't they see Youtube is turning into regular TV, with the ability to post comments live. I mean this used to be a space where citizns could share media - now it's all about ads, trailers, and other paid content with the odd YouTube celebrity mixed in.

  • the wonderfull thing about youtube is I'm not forced to watch the crap that passes for tv entertainment.corporations are there to make money and maybe they will learn we are all not as ignorant as they think we are.they could put out good stuff too!!!

  • At the present time you're not forced to watch anything, but that could change. The point is that we really can't trust a corporation with managing someting so important, because they really do just want to sell our eyes to advertisers.

  • Also the fact that not long ago this place was pretty open, and now paid content crowds out citizen media - should be alarming. Everytime an advertiser pays to get on the popular pages, some citizen producer is being sqeezed into the back water of the site.

  • no, dont they have enough besides your money. I thought this was America land of the free, home of the web surfers, we need are freedom online too.

  • this is an easy response...FUCK NO

  • Journalism from Corporate America are the yarns of criminals! This media bias clearly shows complicity in perpetuating frauds such as the I.R.S, and the federal reserve. These Corporate think tanks are obviously enemies of our nation and one day must be dealt with as such. I believe it is our duty as citizens to pass this message on to these vultures, "Ignorance is no excuse for what you have done". They have been more detrimental to our nation than a standing army!

  • Thank you. I will check into it.

  • Check out TheRealNews. If you love You Tube you will love RealNews! They post articles on the tube as well.

  • Citezen Journalism is being made possible by such ideas as Youtube (I love you youtube). As a matter of fact. It will eventually be the only true form of non profit journalism in the world. We can no longer trust the Rupert Murdock networks of the world. Instead we must rely on Youtube, Citizen journalism, and New blog sites.

  • I think it's been amply demonstrated that large corporations are the kiss of death when they become involved with the media. They are definitely untrustworthy.

  • Please, be informed, look up the facts of AIPAC. Israel has a death grip on our country. Take the time to be informed, dont react to me or anyone else,,,,LOOK UP THE FACTS OF AIPAC.

  • at least we don't HAVE to click on the ads, unlike tv, if you don't have a remote handy, it's no fun watching tv anymore because of the ads, *enter capitalism, booboo
