♪♫ You know I've smoked a lot of grass
Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I've never touched nothin'
O' Lord, that my spirit could kill
I've seen a lot of people walkin' around
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
If you live or if you die

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, The Pusher
God damn, The Pusher man

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
But the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
But the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your mind to scream

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, The Pusher
God damn The Pusher man

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yeah I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

  • Great song by Hoyt Axton, excellent version done by John Kay. Still have this on Vinyl. Lucky to have grown up at a time of great music

  • I only recently acquired this again on vinyl. From my favourite era of music. Yea...we were very fortun@e with the sounds @ the time.

Indeed, it is a gre@ song!! In case my natural sus wasn't going to be enough, when hearing this song as a 14yr old, it did more to keep me away from 'smack' than any authoritarian sources ever did. Their songs made sense and so left a deep impression on me. I had respect for wh@ they were saying, unlike the untrustworthy bs being foisted on me from the establishment. One of the 'found@ion' albums of my musical make-up and imo the best of Steppenwolf.

  • I can't believe Hoyt Axton wrote this song......he's country....LOL Best song he ever wrote. John Kay made this song famous!!

  • This is interesting:

    (from 'Black Mountain Blues')

    I'm bound for black mountain

Me and my razor and my gun

    I'm bound for black mountain

Me and my razor and my gun

Gonna cut her if she stands there

And shoot her if she runs

Still, "The Pusher" ranks high up for me as a great 60's-early 70's rock 'n 'roll number.

  • I love this album. My Dad had it in his collection. When I was around 7 years old (1977), my brother would scare the shit out of me with the skull/grim reaper on the back cover of the LP... haha Great memories! - jeff

  • This is a Buy for all who do not have this disc. Awesome performance, produced with amenable High Fidelity,...i.e. pleasing to the ears!!

  • I have this album, and have burned it to a CD with a special machine that I own.

  • Love y'all America!!! Those little white pills will tear us down..
