I would rather have a gun...."just in case". Or stealth will turn out to be overrated and not work well enough to defeat radar and pretty much be a waste. Luck or not 1 stealth aircraft was already shot down over Bosnia and look how long the service life on all these aircraft are. The future will probably be disposable UAVs

Dogfights died before the Korean War......"jets can't turn at that speed, the day of the dogfight is over" than it turned out they could. Then "Russian bombers will be shot down at long range and war will go nuclear.....No need for a gun, the day of the dogfight is over". Vietnam...."We have missiles we don't need a gun, the day of the dogfight is over". How many people died from that mistake? Are we noticing a pattern yet? Even if it's not china at some point 2 stealthy aircraft will meet.

us has so many pilots if there ever was a war after the first string of china pilots go down they would have no chance, just like world war 2 when the veteran jap and German pilots went down there was no one else with the experience of combat to replace them

Looks like the J-20 is more like a bomber role. The plane is too big to be a fighter.

@SmallShark US carriers are protected my Goalkeeper defense systems, 3 automated gun turrets that fire 60 rounds per second and work without any human input. Also, modern carriers feature flares, chaff, anti-missile systems and carry fighters that can intercept targets that are 100 miles away. Those would have to be some pretty skilled chinese pilots :p

@fierwall5 They are designed for different things. The f22 is air dominance, the f35 is a multirole compromise, like the Eurofighter Typhoon

@indiscreetassassin I'm curious what issues those are? Not saying there aren't issues. Just accepting that you might know something that I don't. Its my understanding that by the end of the year we will have 1600 of them, not including those that we are already exporting to the UK. I've watched them flying around the Nevada desert and they seem to do fine, but who knows, even the Death Star had issues : )

Los aviones occidentales son los mejores aviones del mundo, los aviones chinos son solo copias....dudo que en combate el J-20 pueda hacer algo Vs. el Raptor, por otro lado va a entrar en servicio en 2017-19........El F-22 esta en servicio desde el 2004........China es un Dragon de papel..........Saludos

The J-20 is just a testbed, the pre production is in the works as of right now. Its all new technology for the chinese completely and just experimenting with it.
