QUICK BREAK DOWN 1851 Confederate Navy .44cal

heres a real quick break down vid of the 1851 blackpowder. and couple lil tips after cleaning one up. the angle is a lil off on the camera. going to redo the video but figured i'd put this one up. these are pretty simple to take down. remove the locking pin screw, take out the pin. and itll pull apart. after regular cleaning. i take bore grease and grease all the contact parts. itll help to break down easy after youve shot it a handful of times and helps it with a smoother function. yall take a look and be ready for a better video on this later. thanks for watchn!

also i would like to add that this is a cleaning video on how to break the 1851 down, not a reloading video. and when dealing with black powder, it is best to break this gun down as far as possible and clean it as well as you can to avoid any problems with it in the future. you dont have to shoot it that much and not clean it to have it mess up on you. it will corrode fast.

also his question was "does the screw have to be taking out to remove the pin?" you do have to take that screw out to get the pin (wedge) out,correct? by saying yes, would be answering that question correctly. and i mentioned i found it easier to leave it out. your the one that said about cylinder swaps, this is a cleaning video, not reloading. thanks for watch'n though.

also, i clean it after about every 3 to 4 reloads, and when breaking it down that much, that little screw can be a pain to get back in. and i found it easier to just leave it out. i havent had any problems. when i clean a gun, i clean it thoroughly. i had the 1st one i bought get messed up and turned into a paper cause of not doing a good job so i try to take them as far down as possible when cleaning.

the video isnt down by sam colt now is it? this is just one way of doing it, and actually the video isnt about reloading or swaping out cylinders, it's about cleaning it. why wouldn't you want to take that wedge out all the way and the screw out to clean it? instead of letting corrosion build up on itfrom the powder blast. you dont have to go with sarcasm.... it's not becoming.

Oh, I'm sorry. I was talking about the way Samuel Colt designed the weapon, I didn't realize we were talking about the way you've, "been doing it for years." My bad.

As I said, the wedge does not need to be completely removed to take the barrel off, otherwise there wouldn't be a retention screw. The wedge is supposed to come out without the screw, that's why S. Colt put the screw there to begin with!

not to say thats not the way it is intended to be, but i havent ever had a problem doing it like this.

i've been doing it for years, taking it out. never had any problems. you have to take the wedge out all the way on these to take the barrel off to swap out cylinders. if the wedge just falls out without the screw, then the wedge is messed up. i take them down almost all the way when i clean them so it doesnt corrode. i've learned from one seizing up on me to take it down as far as you can when cleaning.

NO! That is the wedge retention screw, and it's there to keep the wedge in the barrel assembly during cylinder swaps. Remember, this is a military weapon, you didn't want the wedge falling to the ground when you swapped out cylinders. There is no reason to completely remove the wedge for cleaning.

yeah, it has to be removed. i actually took it out and left it out. i've fired it a lot with out the screw and never had a problem with it slipping out. thanks for watchn!!
