The sword is far more versatile.
Your options for attack are too limited with an axe.

I guess really most Bruce Lee, Chow Yun Fat, and Jet Li movies would likely all have swords in them by default.
And anything with a knight or a medieval setting..... ooooo oooo I totally forgot about Robin Hood-Prince of thieves. I watched that a million times as a kid.
