Tibetan monks from Atlanta's Drepung Loseling Monastery work 5 days to construct a 5 foot by 5 foot Amitayus Mandala Sand Painting. After laying out the design from memory, they painstakingly create the beautiful work a grain of sand at a time. Less than an hour after the Mandala is complete, the monks perform a closing ceremony and destroy the amazing piece of art. This moving ceremony reminds us of the impermanence of life. This ceremony was performed at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia June 23 - 28, 2008 during the The XVth Conference of the International Association of Buddhist Studies.
