Prime Minister John Key's special press conference to announce the successful outcome of the Government's negotiations with representatives from Warner Brothers aimed at keeping production of The Hobbit in New Zealand.
@Tvdhakla Well, look at it this way: Most actors worldwide actually can not afford to live of acting alone. To them, acting is a job. Very few actors are fortunate enough to be able to do that as a career. Three days of acting as an extra certainly is preferable to nothing I am sure. Besides, the impact on the whole movie industry for NZ would have been massive if that deal would not have worked out.
@stacey182 Not sure that it is. Two things. One you can opt out. And in most cases when you say you are going to opt out the jobs goes. Two, the no reason given thing. Go to an interview and when you get asked "why did leave your last job?" try replying "I don't know they didn't say..."
@Tvdhakla the 90 day trial period is a good thing if you actually think about it or understand it. It gives employers more confidence to hire workers and surveys say that 40% of employers wouldn't have hired without the 90 day trial period. Plus, it is voluntary.
@Tvdhakla it's not really the governments job to do business with individual companies, they're supposed to regulate industries, but in this case, that is what they did :)
@wesley1989ish - you sure? Let's see. Raised GST. 90 day rule. Cut cash to adult education. Cut the Bioethics Council. Didn't handle the Henry interview question at all.... Y0u're right.. he's a genius!!! :(

@tommo39 - Why?

If this had not go to plan Brownlee and Joyce would have "fronted"the press conference.
The PM also claims "thousands of jobs". So, three days work as an extra will now be a JOB....??

Seems a little bit like micro-managing by the government, but it needed doing!
