Shoreline is a ground- breaking new South African documentary environmental series on SABC2, starting on 13 July, and running for 13 weeks every Monday evening at 19:30. It combines breathtaking photography with a unique background on the communities & often unseen natural riches of South Africa.

Shoreline will explore the nearly 3000 kilometers of the South African coastline -stretching from the desert border with Namibia on the Atlantic coast southwards around the tip of Africa and then north to the border with Mozambique on the Indian Ocean.

We will reveal how natural wonders and historic events have shaped the lives of coastal communities, focusing on the natural history, history and archaeology of each region, to build an evolving, encyclopedic picture of the South African coastline.

In this 13 part tv series, our expert presenters will unlock the archeology, history and natural history as well as show us the current activities and attractions along our amazing coastline. In each episode we will visit a stretch of coastline to get a sense of its character and stories to help build a picture of our unique coastline. Taking the viewer to the life at the waters edge.

The new local TV show is presented by the highly acclaimed stage and screen actor Peter Butler. The Shorelines mascot Jack the dog will be joined by their three expert presenters - Eleanor Yeld - marine biologist, Gavin Whitelaw - archaeologist, and Nomalanga Mkhize - historian.

Shoreline begins on Monday 13 July 2009 at 19:30 on SABC2, and runs for 13 weeks thereafter.
