@mistaben2k If you're old enough to have grown up on this, then why are you watching shows like this?
There's always a generation tiff about the new not being as good as the old in anything, but you gotta remember that's just nostalgia and the fact you're older.

Yes, I remember when YTV used to show 'Take the high road' as well. I was only a toddler but I always remember my mum and I always used to fall asleep when it was on. We both probably presumed this was because it was dreadful however it later turned out we had been suffering from minor carbon monoxide poisoning coming from our defective fire.
The 1988 series of Rainbow was especially creative and brilliant, and special for a number of reasons: the last to feature Stanley Bates, Rod, Jane and Freddy, the last to use cast members as scriptwriters, and the last to be produced by Lesley Burgess. Of course, the show continued, and brilliantly so, until 1992. British TV today is all the more impovrished without all those talented people. Well, at least we can still enjoy Peter Marshall's appearances on "Newsnight".

I apologise to you as I've just deleted your previous comment by accident when I wanted to reply to it!!! :-(
I wanted to say that I agree with you regarding John Styles - indeed he was excellent, and delightfully witty.
And as you say, the 1988 series of Rainbow was probably the last "traditional" one, as the 1989-92 series were a bit of a revamp. (Although they were still good, as you say! ;-) )
